2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 remains a solid choice among everyday drivers. It's a powerful truck for job sites or for transporting your family. The 2021 model comes in varying trims, cab styles, and bed lengths, so it's important to do your research before deciding which option works best for your needs.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 features eight trim options: WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, LT Trail Boss, RST, LTZ, and High Country. Depending on trim levels, the truck is available in three cab types and three bed lengths. Regular Cabs can seat three people, while the Double and Crew Cabs seat up to six occupants. The Silverado 1500 also comes in 5-foot-10-inch, 6-foot-7-inch, and 8-foot-2-inch bed lengths.
Also, the vehicle now offers a MultiFlex tailgate, which has a small cutout to allow you to transport long objects in the truck's bed. This feature also includes a step for easier access into the Silverado 1500's bed.
Engine (Power)
The 2021 Silverado 1500 comes with five excellent engine options. Each 4.3-liter V-6 engine produces 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque, while the 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder powertrain delivers 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque. Two V-8 engines are available, starting with a 5.3-liter option featuring 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. In contrast, the superior 6.2-liter V-8 offers 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
A diesel powertrain rounds out the engine lineup. This 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel six-cylinder engine puts out 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
The truck's fuel economy numbers vary depending on the engine. First starters, the turbodiesel engine returns the best numbers with 23 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. The turbocharged four-cylinder gives you an estimated 20 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, while the 5.3-liter V-8 gets 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.
Every Silverado 1500 is available with four-wheel drive, and some trim levels offer the Z71 package, which includes a more rugged suspension for a better off-roading experience. For 2021, Chevy increased the truck's towing capacities for the turbodiesel and turbocharged four-liter engines. When properly equipped, the vehicle has a maximum towing capacity of 13,300 pounds and a hauling capacity of 2,280 pounds.
Interior
The Silverado 1500's interior is just as varied as its many cab and bed configurations. The lower trims have cloth upholstery and manual locks, while the upper trims offer leather upholstery and premium amenities. Trims come with either a 7- or 8-inch touch-screen display along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Safety Features
Further, the Silverado 1500 comes with a multi-camera towing system for an optimized towing experience. This system includes up to 15 cameras for viewing what's in and around the trailer. Lower trims also come standard with the Safety Package, which has blind-spot monitoring and parking sensors. Opt for any of the advanced variants with the Safety Package II, featuring adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and automatic high-beam headlights.
