There are loads of exciting winter activities for the whole family within driving distance of Pataskala, OH. Pile everyone in a roomy Chevrolet Blazer, Tahoe, or Suburban, and head down the road to experience all the winter fun and excitement of ice fishing, flying kites, sledding, and admiring the magical winter scenery. 1. Celebrate National Kite Flying Day Every year on February 8, between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., everyone for miles around flock to Infirmary Mound Park at 4351 Lancaster Road in Granville, just over 11 miles away from Pataskala, for National Kite Flying Day. Buckeye Lake State Park at 2905 Leibs Island Road NE in Millersport, 14.8 miles from Heath, has several points for easy access to the best ice fishing spots on the lake, and you can get everything you need at the bait shops and sports shops around the lake. 3. Go Sledding Load the family in the car and take a 9.6-mile drive to Blacklick Woods at 6975 East Livingston Avenue in Reynoldsburg to sled down the moderate hill on the golf course. If you drive 14.2 miles to Heath, you can slide down the slope in John C. Gellar Park at 580 Cynthia Street. A line of trees down the hill creates two areas ideal for sledding. Choose the best side and spend an exciting afternoon flying through the snow down the best sledding hill in the area. 4. With a 2-acre fishing pond and play area in the woods, Liberty Park is small but has everything you need for outdoor fun with the family. The park has open space, a patio, a grill, and a paved walking path. Liberty Park offers many activities, including swimming, fishing, hiking, and biking. Recently dead tree branches were removed, and trails through the woods were widened. The park also added bird boxes to attract more bluebirds! Swim Lessons The Pataskala Pool is a great place to cool off. It has many activities, such as swimming lessons and pool parties. The pool is located at 550 Township Rd, close to home for many residents of Pataskala. Swim lessons are available for children preschool age and up! The swim classes focus on water safety, basic swimming skills, and treading competitions for children ready for more advanced training. Freedom Park Located at Havens Corner and Taylor Road, Freedom Park has an open field, picnic areas, and playground equipment. At Freedom Park, you'll find a shelter house and grills so that you can make a picnic lunch or dinner with your friends and family. Bison have been reintroduced to the park's 1,600-acre restored prairie, and for a good view of America's largest mammals, follow the Creek Greenway Trail or stand on the deck at the Nature Center overlooking the enclosed prairie. Explore the park on more than 10 miles of hiking and biking trails with picturesque views around every corner. The Early Television Museum For many of us, television is a relaxing pastime after a hard day of hacking away at making enough cash to enjoy life. Now's your chance to take a retro step back in time to see where it all began. Head out to Hilliard to look at the old television sets in the Early Television Museum, founded by Steve McVoy. The museum features a collection of 200 tube televisions from 1928 to 1962. There are fascinating mechanical systems from the 1920s, pre-war British and American sets from the 30s, and color sets of the 50s and early 60s. The televisions are all working, and you can even switch them on to view original programming.
