Pataskala Municipal Park

This excellent 15-acre local community park has thick leafy woods with trails to explore and find a suitable shaded picnic spot. There’s a picturesque trickling stream to settle beside, surrounded by the sounds of birdsong and nature. Alternatively, there are several well-kept picnic tables under pavilion shading and also plenty of wide-open green spaces for sitting on the grass. 

If your family’s in an active mood, there are fields for soccer, basketball, and baseball, a sand volleyball court, a swimming pool, and a playground that’s perfect for younger children. You can find the park at the southern end of South Township Road.

1. Mead Needham Museum

The West Licking Historical Society, Inc created the Mead Needham Museum in a beautiful 1890s home at 300 South Main Street in Pataskala. The museum is named after the first residents that resided in the house, with the last owner being the editor of the Pataskala Standard, W. S. Needham. In his weekly newspaper, he shared stories, memories, and facts about the townspeople, a valuable source of the area’s local history.

Today, his home tells the story of the town’s origins and the area’s history through a fascinating collection of artifacts, including photographs and documents. Admission to the museum is free, but donations are greatly appreciated.

The park rangers also offer programs, like Tots on Trails. When you visit the indoor part of the nature center, you’ll find educational activities, a large amphibian tank, books, puzzles, and even toys for the younger kids. Admission is free for everyone.

The Blacklick Woods Nature Center is located at 6975 East Livingston Ave. in Reynoldsburg, just a few miles from Pataskala.
