If you are looking for new places to explore in your 2023 Chevrolet Traverse, here are three nearby state parks you can easily drive to while in town.

1. Buckeye Lake State Park

Offering excellent opportunities for swimming, boating, fishing, grilling, and picnicking, Buckeye Lake State Park is a beautiful recreation area that spans about 3,500 acres along the shores of Buckeye Lake. Considered the oldest state park in the state of Ohio, this place was established in 1949 and has since become a top-rated weekend and day trip destination among visitors from Columbus and other nearby towns.

Buckeye Lake State Park is located a little under 15 miles east of downtown Pataskala and can be reached in just 20 minutes by car along Palmer Road. Once you make your way to this nature reserve, some of the areas you should not miss include the swimming beaches on the southern shores of the lake and the different hiking trails that crisscross the park.

2. Muskingum River State Park

Located about 45 miles west of Pataskala, Muskingum River State Park is another fantastic recreation area that attracts nature lovers and outdoor sports enthusiasts from all over Ohio and beyond. Sitting along the banks of the Muskingum River, this place is part of the National Register of Historic Places and is a well-known destination for boating, jet skiing, kayaking, canoeing, and other water sports.

Getting from downtown Pataskala to Muskingum River State Park takes a little under one hour by car via route OH-16. If you are into fishing, this nature reserve is a place you don’t want to miss, as it is a great spot to catch great specimens of largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and various species of catfish. Other activities include camping, picnicking, hiking, and biking.

3. A.W. Marion State Park

A large public recreation area featuring five miles of trails and direct access to Hargus Lake, A.W. Marion State Park is an excellent place to visit for Pataskala residents and anyone traveling around the region. Covering an area of a little over 300 acres, this nature reserve was established in 1950 and offers excellent opportunities for fishing, hiking, boating, wildlife watching, and picnicking. Getting here from Pataskala takes about 45 minutes by car along route OH-188.
